Mission & Vision
iAM exists to bridge the generational gap and restore civic engagement in a time of unprecedented societal challenges. Political, economic, public health, and technological upheavals have contributed to a generation facing profound disillusionment. In this volatile landscape, our institutions struggle as younger generations increasingly withdraw rather than engage civically. Fear of backlash, ‘cancel culture,’ and potential repercussions have fueled apathy, putting invaluable institutional knowledge at risk of disappearing. iAM is committed to preserving the essential elements of our culture by supporting established organizations and creating new pathways for engagement where needed.
Mission: To bridge generational divides and foster a culture of civic responsibility by nurturing emerging leaders committed to shaping a vibrant and inclusive vision for Michigan.
Vision: A Michigan led by empowered advocated, where communities are unified in purpose, institutions are trusted and accessible, and every individual plays an active role in democracy.
Challenges
Political, economic, public health, and technological crisis have led to a broken generation.
Constant flux and tumult has placed our institutions in a tenuous position as new generations prefer to drop out rather than become civically engaged
The risk of being attacked, cancelled or receiving repercussions for getting involved is resulting in apathy. As a result, institutional knowledge from generation to generation is at risk of being permanently lost
iAM works to fill a unique void that exists between members of a community and action towards civic engagement, a strong constituent voice, and creating a new generation of leaders. We are the connector organization to different civic, fraternal and mentorship programs that make a difference in your local community.
Solutions
Cultivating Safe Space for Civic Dialogue
Establish safe, moderated forums and local discussion groups where people can express ideas and engage without fear of backlash or judgement. Encourage open, respectful discussions that help break down divisive issues and foster mutual understanding.
Mentorship Programs to Bridge Generational Gaps
Create structured mentorship programs where experienced individuals can pass on institutional knowledge to younger generations in hands-on, collaborative settings.
Experiential Learning and Community Engagement
Promote experiential learning opportunities like community projects, volunteer programs, and internships that directly impact local issues and allow young people to see tangible results of their efforts. This will be supported through partnership with schools, universities, and civic organizations.
Flexible Civic Participation Models
Offer varied and accessible modes of civic involvement, including micro-volunteering, remote engagements, and advocacy through digital platforms. This accommodates different levels of availability and comfort with public roles.
Highlighting Positive Role Models and Success Stories
Showcase stories of young leaders and successful initiatives that have made a positive impact. Use social media, workshops, and public events to bring attention to these individuals and achievements.
Digitize and Archive Institutional Knowledge
Many valuable insights are still paper-bound or confined to those approaching retirement. Digitizing this knowledge-whether through interviews, documentation, or online resources hubs-can ensure it remains accessible to future generations, regardless of the economic or social climate.
